🧩 SWK 111: Introduction to Social Work
Summary:
This course offers students a comprehensive introduction to the profession of social work, with a special focus on its development and practice in Kuwait. Students explore the core values and ethics of the profession, and the vital role social workers play in supporting individuals, families, and communities. Emphasis is placed on Kuwaiti society’s unique social structure, cultural context, and governmental institutions that influence service delivery. Topics include family welfare, youth services, disability support, and working with vulnerable populations in Kuwait’s social and legal environment.
🏛️ SWK 210: Social Policy and Planning
Summary:
This course examines the foundations of social policy and planning with a focus on Kuwait’s welfare state and public service systems. Students analyze how social policies are formulated, implemented, and evaluated within the Kuwaiti context, particularly in areas such as housing, education, healthcare, and labor. The course also explores the roles of key institutions, such as the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Public Authority for Disability Affairs. A critical component is understanding how social workers can advocate for evidence-based policies that address inequality, support national development, and reflect Kuwait’s cultural values and Vision 2035 goals.
